Obama side-steps the abortion question…

DALLAS - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama side-stepped a pointed query about abortion on Saturday by mega-pastor Rick Warren during a televised forum.
Asked at what point a baby gets human rights, Obama, who strongly supports abortion rights, said: whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity is above my pay grade.
He went on to reiterate his view that it was important to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who followed Obama onto the stage of the nationally televised event, was more blunt and more emphatic.
He said a baby’s human rights began at the moment of conception I have a 25-year pro-life record.
Three Points About Victoria Osteen Being Sued…

Their has been much news lately about the lawsuit filed against Victoria Osteen (Co-pastor of Houston’s Lakewood Church - one of the largest churches in America and wife of Joel Osteen) for assaulting a flight attendant on a 2005 Continental Airlines flight to Vail, Colorado.
While I have many opinions about Victoria Osteen and the Lakewood church, I will keep them to myself. I would however like to share some thoughts about the law suit and all the publicity surrounding it.

Love Your Enemies
Posted by Pastor Kurt | Filed under My Faith, Web Clips
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Matthew 5:43-45
The Pharisees taught the people to hate the enemies of Israel. The implication was that this hatred was God’s means of judging their enemies. Jesus taught the people just the opposite. “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
The Christian is to love others as God loves them. This is God’s standard of love. God doesn’t have to love us. He loves us because He chooses to love; it’s only by His grace. He loves us while we were alienated from Him as His enemies. The sinful mind is hostile toward God.

The Goodness of God…

You are good, and do good: teach me Your statutes. Psalms 119:68
- When He gives happiness without merit, it is grace.
- When He bestows happiness against merit, it is mercy.
- When He puts up with provoking rebels, it is patience.
- When He performs His promise, it is truth.
- When He sympathizes with a distressed person, it is pity.
- When He supplies a poor person, it is bounty.
- When He supports an innocent person, it is righteousness.
- When He pardons a humble person, it is mercy. All summed up in this one name—Goodness.
The Reason for Lesson Handouts…
Posted by Pastor Kurt | Filed under Lists, My Faith, Randomness
I am a firm believer of using lesson handouts. I have been writing them since the beginning of my ministry and I believe they really help the people. Here are some reasons why we use handouts.
- People listen better
- People remember more
- Increases participation
- Cover more scripture
- Can review later
- Allows discussion
- Visitors sometimes don’t bring Bibles
Faith or Feelings?
Posted by Pastor Kurt | Filed under My Faith, Web Clips
We live in a world and body that is controlled
by “FEELINGS” … It is so easy to do the right thing and believe the
right thing when we “FEEL” it … But it is very difficult, when what
God asks us to do doesn’t “FEEL” right…
- When God asks us to forgive someone who has hurt us…
- To celebrate the success of others when they succeed at what you are attempting
- To believe when you feel like doubting…
- To walk by faith and NOT by sight…
- To NOT give up when you don’t know if you will succeed…
- When God asks us to step out and act before we have the resources…
Faith is NOT a “FEELING” it’s a decision… To “FOLLOW” Christ wherever He LEADS…

Commentary About the Horror of Hell…
Posted by Pastor Kurt | Filed under My Faith, Quotes
Horror has taken hold of me! to see the law of Him, who gave being to the world, so utterly forsaken! so much light and love shining from heaven in vain! The earthly heart cannot endure that any restraint should be imposed; much less that any constraint, even of love, should be employed to change its bias, and turn it back to its God. Are you then a believer? then you will be most tender of the honor of the law of God. Every stroke at His law you will feel as a stroke at your own heart. Are you a believer? then will you consider every man as your brother; and weep to see so many of them around you, crowding the broad road to destruction, and perishing as the miserable victims of their own deceivings. The prospect on every side is, as if God were cast down from His throne, and the creatures of His hand were murdering their own souls.
Expounding on Psalms 119:53. Written by Charles Bridges in 1847.
The world doesn’t hear much about hell anymore…
